With Coachella Weekend One over, the season of Music Festivals is in full swing. In the next couple months the U.S. will see dozens of exciting concerts that cater to a variety of tastes and preferences. Though there’s still time to scrounge up a Coachella Weekend Two ticket and head down to Indio Valley where you can’t tell if it’s the bass or the heat that has got your head thumping, we thought we’d highlight some of the other upcoming music fests this spring. If you’re thinking, “Bro, Coachella is awesome, but I want more lights and electronic music” you should check out Electric Daisy Carnival or EDC as the kids call it. The Las Vegas fest has been sold out, but you can still get tickets to see Calvin Harris, Bassnectar and other EDM masters at EDC: New York. What do I wear? Infinite bracelets made out of plastic beads, tutus and anything Lady Gaga would approve of. If you’re thinking, “I just want to be the music, man” Joshua Tree is the festival for you. It’s a place where the lines between performers and audience members is blurred and the website dictates, “Music is the soul of life”. You might not know any of the bands, but you might leave as a member of one or more of them. What should I wear? Let your spirit animal be your guide. If you’re thinking, “Too many teenagers – I can’t handle Coachella. I need a glass of wine over an episode of Dawson’s Creek.” Look no further than Napa Valley’s BottleRock festival where you can see the best bands from the ‘90s and early 2000s like OutKast, Weezer and Spin Doctors all the while sipping on the finest wines Napa Valley has to offer. What to wear? A sophisticated twist on Coachella fashion; think maxi dresses, tasteful crop tops, ray bans and Sperry Topsiders. Extra points if you sport a choker necklace. TheFind’s Music Festival Guides have great tips to offer as well that will help you be prepared for any music festival. From fashion to camping gear, they’ve got you covered. Despite persistent cold weather in some parts of the US, spring is still on the way. The birds will be chirping above dew-dropped lawns as newborn fawns take their first steps. Where will you be? It’s time to put the Netflix binging on pause and emerge from your blankets, look fondly upon the permanent imprint you have left in your couch and take a refreshing breath of that magical spring time air. Did you get up yet? Okay, good. One of the best outlets for exercising your spring fever is getting your backyard back in shape. No doubt the winter has left some things neglected, but it’s time to roll up your sleeves and start in on the dirty work. Summer will be here before you know it and you’re going to want to have everything looking great for backyard BBQ’s and all sorts of summer fun. For gardening tools and tips check out this blog post on TheFind. Gardening can be a great family activity that’s both fun and educational. Once you’ve got your weeds pulled, your seeds in the ground and your beds irrigated, you can also use TheFind to pick the perfect patio furniture to complement your garden style. Whatever your tastes, you can trust TheFind to help you ensure a bountiful and beautiful backyard harvest. Smith Micro’s Anime Studio allows digital artists and novices alike to explore their creativity in endless ways. Browsing their gallery is a great way to get inspired. Videos range from commercials to short films and even music videos. Incorporating animation into your digital message and branding yields a whole new level of entertainment. Check out the Goldfish animated music video below made by artist Mike Scott through Anime Studio. We warn viewers with the wise words of Gloria Estefan, the rhythm is gonna getcha! If you’re as popular as we are, it might seem as if you can’t leave the house without running into someone you know. Most of the time it’s pretty great, it makes you feel like you’re the star of a '70s sitcom. Maybe the intro to Sanford and Son plays as you walk down the avenue waiving to friends and admirers alike. Of course, because you are a star you look phenomenal whether you’re on your way to work, out for a stroll in the shopping mall or scrounging for the solace of hot coffee in the early morning after a sleepless night. Hold on, we know you’re lying about that last one; but that’s okay, no one looks glamorous all the time (except for you Meryl Streep – did you know Meryl is an avid reader of the FortyThree blog? And yes, we are on a first name basis). We can’t always insure that we look our best, so that’s why we’re very excited about the new app Cloak. Cloak pulls data from your contacts’ Foursquare and Instagram accounts to track where they are and geolocates them on your own personal anti-social map. Think about this advancement – you can now go to the pharmacy searching for allergy medicine with puffy eyes and stuffy nose without the mortification of running into an ex. You can go get your nails done when you’re playing hooky from work without worrying your boss might catch you. The possibilities of preventing awkward social coincidences are unlimited. The app - designed by a man who previously created an app that replaced his friends’ shared baby photos with photos of cats – is certainly praiseworthy, however because it doesn’t link up to Facebook or Twitter (yet), the information it can gather on your frenemies are limited. Don’t despair! TheFind can help you remain undetected with back up disguises. Always keep a fake moustache in your pocket, a wig in your bag, and The Canterbury Tales (or any other book above your reading level) in hand. Originally thought to be the bones of a whale, scientists have determined that fossil evidence found high above the Arctic Circle along an Alaskan river actually belong to a miniature Tyrannosaurus Rex called Nanuqsaurus hoglundi (Nanuq is the Inupiat word for polar bear). This pint-sized terror faced a plethora of extreme ecological pressures including the harsh polar landscape and difficulty finding food. Thankfully, in our modern world if we were ever faced with these conditions that this polar lizard endured, it would be a lot easier for us to get a hold of crucial resources. We would be perusing TheFind on our smartphones deciding which color we wanted our electric blanket to be as we waited for drones to fly by and drop off the In n’ Out we ordered. We borrowed Doc Brown’s DeLorean DMC-12 and set the date to 70 million years ago to have a fireside chat with our ancient arctic friend and hear his tips on how to survive in such a perilous climate. "Mr. Rex, the whole world is wondering, how did you do it?” “Rex is my cousin, call me Nanuq. Well, my needs are not all so different than the modern human. The most important things were staying warm and finding shelter and food.” Taking my phone in his surprisingly dexterous claw he used TheFind to show me all the things that would have been on his wish list. “Man do you guys have it easy! Fire starter kits, animal traps and insulated jackets all would have been so nice to have around. Where I live, it’s dark for more than half of the year and even though I’ve got a keen sense of smell, it would have been great to have these night vision goggles as well. Perhaps, most of all it would have been nice to have some entertainment – maybe playing cards or Bop It.” Well, there you have it everyone. We hope our interference with the space-time continuum was worth the valuable knowledge this wise pygmy T. rex had to offer and next time you’re in the wild make sure you pack accordingly. A-O River! Season four of the sketch comedy, Portlandia debuts tonight at 10/9 central on IFC. Starring former SNL favorite Fred Armisen and former rocker Carrie Brownstein, the show satirizes life in Portland, the place where young people go to retire and the mayor plays bass in a reggae band. The Peabody Award winning show has seen guest appearances from Steve Buscemi, Heather Graham, Jeff Goldblum, Jack White and Jason Sudeikis among many others. The dream of the 90’s is alive in Portland, but are you ready? TheFind is here to help satisfy your inner Portlandian. Use your WiFi, or better yet your MindFi, to browse Portlandia gear like t-shirts, mugs, and activity books. If that sounds too mainstream, like fixed bikes and chin beards, TheFind has much more in store. Purchase your pickling kits, child leashes, feminist books and even natural cacao (Wait, but is it organic? Yes, yes it is.) all in a one stop shopping experience. You can even double down – twice the product for twice the price, what a deal! Hide any non-reusable bags, put on your saggy shorts and start on your shell art before the Portland Adult Hide and Seek League finds you. Tune in tonight! If you don’t already have plans for tomorrow night with that special someone, you might end up celebrating Singles Awareness Day a.k.a. S.A.D. and that’s just sad. Thank goodness this year Valentine’s Day falls on the same weekend as President’s Day, which means instead of having just one Valentine you have 42 distinguished American leaders at your side. It’s impossible to be disappointed with so many friends. Let FDR remind you to embrace your inner thrill-seeker when he tells you “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Take an extra long bubble bath in honor of Taft who had his own custom tub fitted to his impressive physique. If you really just want some peace and quiet, there’s always good ol’ Silent Cal to sit by your side. Before you celebrate these noteworthy gentlemen, you should probably brush up on their interests and achievements – it’s a lot less creepy than stalking a would-be date’s Facebook page and you’re learning American history! Thankfully there are some helpful apps out there so we don’t doze off while reading a Wikipedia page. USA Presidents is a standard flashcard app that includes flashcards, quizzes, and fun trivia. There are also some more interesting apps out there like Roadside Presidents that informs you of all the nearby presidential landmarks or Presidents vs. Aliens that tests your presidential knowledge and rewards you with the power to ward of alien attack. If historical trivia isn’t your thing, but you still want to celebrate President’s Day there’s one more option. Apart from those 42 Commanders in Chief, there are quite a few Hollywood Presidents that have proven to be quite inspirational themselves. Use TheFind to check out amazing cinematic performances from Daniel Day-Lewis to Kevin Kline and even Jack Nicholson. They also have a great selection of documentaries. So enough of that S.A.D. the buck stops here. Our new client WerYoo – the app that allows you to explore the world from your iPhone - came out of beta this week and we couldn’t be more excited! With WerYoo the fashion trends of NYC, soirees of Paris, and the art scene of London are now at your fingertips. Be advised – once you’ve downloaded the app you no longer have an excuse for missing out on all the fun. WerYoo users are filling up the map with evidence of their adventures at the tastiest restaurants, bars with the best happy hours, and the most popular spots in your city. Check out the app and new coverage from TUAW and Macworld. Join the party and see what’s going on around you! 43 client, TheFind.com, is getting ready to release TheFind for iPad, an essential utility for your daily shopping habit.
